Artist Statement
I create multimedia paintings that serve as a tactile archive of the Northeastern United States. My work is a visual and physical exploration of the landscapes I love to wander, specifically the quiet transitions between dense woods and open meadows.
Rather than simply depicting nature, I incorporate the environment itself into my canvases. My process involves gathering leaves, wild grasses, and seeds and combining them with embroidery, vintage buttons, fragments of antique book end papers, and other found objects. These bits of ephemera act as a bridge between the ever evolving, raw , organic beauty of the earth and the nostalgic steadfastness of human craft. By layering these wild elements with nostalgic fragments my intention is to create a deep sense of place - a connection to the land that is both wild and intimately remembered.
